Access to several websites, those of the mainstream media, but also of the White House and the British government, is again possible. It was impossible to connect to it this Tuesday morning. The problem was caused by a computer problem with US cloud service provider fastly.
Several websites around the world, in particular major media but also institutional sites such as that of the White House or the British government, as well as the Reddit platform or the PayPal payment system, were facing access difficulties this Tuesday morning.
The American provider of “cloud” services fastly announced at the beginning of the afternoon the return of its global network following a computer problem.
Fastly is one of the world’s most widely used content delivery network providers. The company earlier today said the issue has been identified and a fix has been applied.
The company added that its customers could see “an increase in the original load as global services returned.”
“Error 503 Service Unavailable”
The gov.uk site, which includes ministries and allows many procedures related to British public services to be carried out, for example indicated “Error 503 Service Unavailable” at around 10:20 GMT.
The White House site referred him at about the same time to the message “This page is not working”.
The sites of major newspapers (Le Monde, L’Obs, and The New York Times) at least temporarily displayed messages such as “Error 503 Service Unavailable” or “Connection Failure”.
The message “Error 503” indicates a problem related to computer servers.
Other sites like those of Amazon and vice were also affected, reports on Twitter Justine Reix, journalist at Vice.fr:
