The North Food Bank finally found its Facebook page on the night of Wednesday 5 to Thursday 6 May, while it had been deactivated since mid-March. The social network admitted that it was an error and that this page corresponded “to the standards of the community”.
The 900 people subscribed to the Facebook page of the Food Bank of the North were surely surprised not to be able to access the content published by the association since 2015. As reported by 20 Minutes, the latter could not post anything for nearly two months: his page had simply been deactivated.
“In mid-March, we wanted to publish a report on Facebook on the dematerialized collection that we had just carried out. It is there that I realized the disappearance of our page, explained the director of the local entity. The social network would not have justified this decision and would not have responded to the many protests that have been made.
Algorithm whim
A few weeks ago, the Facebook page of the city of Bitche (Moselle) suffered a similar fate. The company’s algorithm had confused the name of the town with an English insult. But in the case of the North Food Bank, the origin of the confusion seems inexplicable.
Contacted by 20 Minutes, Facebook France acknowledged “an error” and specified that a “new examination” proved the page’s compliance “with community standards “. It was thus finally reactivated on the night of Wednesday May 5 to Thursday May 6.
