The servers from which the cyberattack started belong to a consultant from the e-commerce giant, according to deputies Matthieu Orphelin and François Ruffin.
Launched Tuesday, November 17, the site “Christmas without Amazon”, relaying a petition against the use of the online sales giant for the holiday season, suffered an attack on the night of Tuesday to Wednesday. This is what revealed two deputies, François Ruffin (La France insoumise) and Matthieu Orphelin, in a joint video, broadcast yesterday.
They refer to an attack carried out by 218 servers, “in an attempt to overload the server hosting the petition in order to make it inaccessible and to deteriorate the count and the database of signatories”. The attempt was foiled by the platform hosting the petition as well as its host.
“An obstacle to the right to petition”
Their technicians, who interact with the deputies in the video, explain that they were able to identify the owner of these servers. “This person is the director of several IT companies, specializing in e-reputation, marketplace, lobbying and e-marketing, and has been certified Amazon Web Services,” assure the deputies. Whether the culprit is this person or someone else who allegedly used their identity, it is too early to know if Amazon is the direct sponsor of this malicious act. “The company we contacted, we had not responded Thursday night.
“This attack constitutes a clear obstacle to the right to petition”, protest the two deputies, who plan to file a complaint. The petition was launched by elected officials from the left and environmentalists, personalities from the world of culture and associations. As of Thursday, 25,000 people had already signed it.
