Disaster in Sri Lanka after 3 days of torrential rains

Nearly 150 people are still wanted following the landslides in Sri Lanka. The toll continues to grow after the torrential rains that have hit the country for three days. Seventeen bodies were found on Wednesday, bringing the death toll to 37.

The Red Cross said it fears that there are several hundred villagers missing. What the disaster management center denied.

More than 223,000 people had to find refuge in emergency centers. Around the town of Aranayaka, 100km from the capital, in the Puttalam region on the east coast and in the Kegalle mountains, aid workers have rescued hundreds of people trapped by the rising waters.

Precipitation is expected to decrease, according to the weather service.
