Two teenagers, aged 15 and 17, are to be summoned before a juvenile judge in France after participating in a challenge on the social network TikTok that suggested their involvement in a crime.
The two young women, who live in the Grasse region (southeast), will have to answer in April, in the judge’s office, in front of accusations of “false alarm that suggested a tragedy”, said Fabienne Atzori, who holds the position of prosecutor in Grasse. A crime for which they theoretically risk up to two years in prison, reports AFP, quoted by Agerpes.
The challenge in which the two participated was sending text messages (SMS) to unknown recipients with the text “Where are you? I have the body” and publishing the answers received on the social network TikTok, according to the daily Nice Matin, which revealed this information.
“Some recipients sounded the alarm and this allowed the gendarmerie to be put into operation to identify the authors of the texts,” Atzori explained.
At the time of the incident, at the beginning of the week, the gendarmes intervened at midnight in the homes of the young women who used personal mobile phones for this prank and, therefore, were easily identified.
“The summons before a judge will set things right,” Atzori said, adding that the criminal response could have been more severe, with a juvenile court summons.
