Microsoft’s bid to buy the US business of the TikTok application was rejected by ByteDance, the Chinese owner of the platform, according to the announcement made on Sunday evening by the American computer giant.
“ByteDance informed us today that they will not sell TikTok operations in the US to Microsoft. We are convinced that our proposal would have been good for TikTok users, while protecting national security interests, “Microsoft said in a statement.
The group, headquartered in Redmond, Washington, said in early August it was interested in taking over US operations at TikTok, which were threatened with a ban in the United States.
President Donald Trump, who for months has accused TikTok of spying for China without presenting evidence, has signed executive orders to force ByteDance to quickly sell US TikTok operations. If a repurchase agreement is not agreed before September 20, the platform will have to close in the US.
The application challenged in court this measure of the American executive.
“We would have made significant changes to ensure that the service meets the highest standards of security, privacy, security and the fight against misinformation,” Microsoft said, according to Agerpres.
In late August, the Walmart group confirmed that it had allied with Microsoft in negotiations to buy the TikTok platform. However, this partnership of the two American giants did not prove enough.
Thus, according to the American press, the Oracle group, whose name was circulated as one of the potential buyers, now has the way open for the acquisition of TikTok operations in the USA.
Oracle and TikTok have not yet confirmed the information circulated by the American media.
