Apple is reducing its dependence on the iPhone with its accessories and services

Apple has published its quarterly results, better than expected. The sale of accessories and services is increasing, while that of its smartphones is decreasing. The American company has been diversifying its offer for several years, reducing its dependence on the iPhone.

Strong growth in services and accessories, slight decline in iPhone sales, sales up sharply: Apple published quarterly results better than expected and reassured Wall Street.

For the fourth quarter of its staggered fiscal year, the apple brand’s revenue was $ 64.04 billion, 1.8% better than the same period last year. According to its boss Tim Cook, it is the best ever produced by the company during this period. Over the year as a whole, it stood at 260.17 billion dollars, down 2% compared to 2018.

Fewer iPhones

Quarterly sales of the iPhone, the latest model of which has been on the market since September, has earned Apple $ 33.36 billion. This is 9.3% less than last year, but better than expected by analysts.

Saved by his other activities. Services generated $ 12.51 billion, 18% better than the same period last year.

This bodes well for the American giant, which is preparing to launch its new Apple TV + streaming service on Friday, November 1, entering an ultra-competitive market that includes heavyweights like Netflix and will soon welcome Disney + and HBO Max.

Accessories to the rescue

Accessory sales rose sharply, generating $ 6.52 billion, an increase of 54% compared to the same period last year. The Apple Watch smartwatch and AirPods wireless earbuds have carried this industry, according to the group. Apple also launched Wednesday a brand new model of headphones, the AirPods Pro, supposed to reduce outside noise and sold $ 250 in the United States.

While sales in China and Europe declined slightly, those in the Americas and the rest of Asia increased. The tech giant comes in third place in the smartphone industry behind China’s Huawei and Korean Samsung according to recent studies.
